ANALYZING AND INTERPRETING RESULTS

After the data have been collected, the next step is to analyze them. Statistical analyses of the data are carried out to allow the researcher to examine and interpret the pattern of results obtained in the study. The statistical analysis helps the researcher decide whether there really is a relationship between the independent and dependent variables. The logic underlying the use of statistical tests is discussed in the chapter “Understanding Research Results: Statistical Inference”. It is not the purpose of this book to teach statistical methods; however, the calculations involved in several statistical tests are provided in Appendix C.
